2013 Postgraduate Panel

The ANSA Postgraduate Panel in 2013 was held at The Australian National University, Canberra on the 7th and 8th of November. The sessions were chaired by Michelle O’Toole of Monash University, Lara McKenzie of The University of Western Australia, and Crystal Abidin of The University of Western Australia.

The sessions were chaired by Michelle O’Toole of Monash University, Lara McKenzie of The University of Western Australia, and Crystal Abidin of The University of Western Australia.

Sessions were:

Session A: Indigenous people in post-traditional worlds
Session B: Movement and migration
Session C: Material culture
Session D: Health, space, and place
Session E: Change and Modernity

In a new initiative, each panel session featured two discussants: an experienced anthropologist and a postgraduate anthropologist. Through this structure, ANSA aimed to provide more and better feedback to presenters, stimulate rigorous thought and discussion, and to give postgraduate co-discussants experience in guiding the discussion. Furthermore, in 2013 ANSA asked that presenters circulate their draft papers to discussants shortly before the conference.
